Small businesses are the backbone of our economy, and in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, we need to ensure we support these enterprises as much as possible.  Did you know:

  • 98% of people are employed by small businesses in Manitoba, and 70% have fewer than 20 employees
  • Between 2013 and 2017, 85% of new jobs were created by small businesses, and since then, that number has jumped 90%
  • For every $100 you spend at a local business, $68 stays in the community

Other than job creation and economic stimulus, here are some other great reasons to support local:

  1. Local Owners Support Local: Local business owners donate more to local nonprofits, fundraisers, and charities than non-local business owners.  Local owners have a vested interest in the welfare and future of our community, and they are less likely to leave.
  2. More Consumer Choice: By supporting local, you are creating competition for large chains, which leads to more innovation, diversity of choices, and lower prices overall.
  3. Create Character and Prosperity: The character of a community is largely defined by its businesses, so having unique offerings adds to the happiness of its residents and visitors alike.  Where we shop, eat, and have fun makes a community feel like home.
  4. Better Customer Service: When shopping at local businesses, you’re not just a number.  You get face-to-face connections with employees and owners alike.  Service is better when, over the course of many years, small business owners are able to build relationships with their residents.
  5. Reduce Environmental Impact: Local businesses typically have a smaller carbon footprint by using less land, creating less pollution, requiring less transportation, and causing less habitat loss.  They are often found closer to residential spaces, so you’re able to access them quicker and easier.

Here at Ideal POS, we pride ourselves in being local, and we encourage you to support local businesses as much as possible.  Even if your favourite shop, restaurant, or service isn’t open right now, consider purchasing a gift card to be used in the future.  This gives immediate income to establishments who may not have other revenue streams at this time.  Besides spending money at small businesses, here are other ways to support local:

  1. Engage with small businesses’ social media through liking, following, sharing, and commenting
  2. Leave positive reviews, which boosts credibility and search engine optimization
  3. Tell others of your visits, through tagging, checking in, or simply word-of-mouth
  4. Use their hashtag when posting photos or comments
  5. Share their events and tag others who may be interested

So, the next time you need to make a purchase, consider seeking out a local business!  You may just discover a new and exciting product or service, while helping your community flourish and thrive!

The average order placed via mobile app or online system is 20% higher, so restaurants boost their earnings while customers satisfy their cravings as quickly and easily as possible. With restaurants facing strict dining restrictions, learn how you can take advantage of mobile ordering to increase profits, expand your customer base, and save time from re-entering phone orders.

In the POS world, you’ll often hear the word integration, but what does that exactly mean, and how does it benefit your business? Integration is the ability for multiple softwares to “shake hands.” Integration internally ties together different software that your business may utilize into one streamlined functionality. For example, integrating your debit pin pads to your POS software allows cheques to be pulled up on the pinpad and payments to close out on your POS system automatically and without manual entry, eliminating human error when calculating bill totals or tips, or inputting method of payment. Integrating your online ordering platform with your POS system allows the online orders to be sent to your POS system directly from the online ordering platform, eliminating the need to manually input your online orders. Integration ties software together so it runs cohesively and simultaneously, aiding in the seamless flow of your restaurant, and allowing your team more facetime with customers while decreasing the odds of human error. While integration can be complicated, IdealPOS has you covered; we will explain the ins and outs of your specific integrations, help you troubleshoot any issues that may arise, and explain new integrations available that would be beneficial to your business.
